History

Bloom Fabrics is a family company that prides itself on its creativity, professionalism and world-class standing in the textile industry.
Bloom Fabrics is a wholly owned and operating Australian company that has been in operation since 1984. The company was founded by husband and wife team, Evelyn and Morris Bloom. They began as remnant merchants, continuing with day-wear fabrics, and now specialise in the best bridal and after-five collection in the country.

Bloom began its operations from the back of a warehouse in Fitzroy, Victoria, and was only open 3 days a week for a few hours each day. Evelyn decided she was bored being at home after her 3 daughters had all gone off to school and she wanted to contribute to the household income. Early in the piece, Evelyn’s sister Roslyn joined the Bloom Team and together with Evelyn they became a dynamic duo! Little did Evelyn know at the time that the inception of Bloom Fabrics would soon grow to become a household name within the textile and bridal industry.

From fleecy, sheeting and remnants, to lycra, beads and sequins, Bloom Fabrics changed its face numerous times until Evelyn found its niche with Bridal laces. Eventually the new premises in St David Street Fitzroy was converted into one of Melbourne’s largest bridal and after five fabric emporiums. Later came the Bloom Haute Couture store and the Bloom Pezzi Tessuti remnant store.

After much deliberation and a rocky recession Bloom Fabrics moved locations to its current position at number 10 Lygon Street East Brunswick, in the heart of Melbourne’s textile mecca. During this time Morris decided to hand the reigns to youngest daughter Jacqui who took over the company with a fresh and enthusiastic energy. In 2004, Evelyn and Morris’ middle daughter Rachel also joined the company and brought with her a wealth of knowledge from the Corporate Industry and life experience after living and working in New York. Together Rachel and Jacqui now run the business with Roslyn close by their side. Devastatingly Evelyn Bloom passed away in May 2007. Since then, Rachel and Jacqui have pledged to continue Bloom Fabrics in the same manner and with the same energising passion as Evelyn did. Please read “In Loving Memory” for our tribute to Evelyn Bloom.
